Personality & Traits

General Overview Daniel Bishop is a man of determination and more intelligence than he lets onto having. Many often dismiss him either because they do not seem to judge him to be a threat or because he plays down his abilities. However, what lies beneath is a man who has more than he lets on going on and will only play his hands as he needs to. Those who know better know that Daniel Bishop is a decent troubleshooter who will complete jobs he takes on.
Strengths & Weaknesses Between his training and his life on the run, Daniel is proficient in a number of roles. He seems to have picked up a number of languages, has plenty of skill as a hand-to-hand fighter and with various weapons, and is highly observant and able to deduce a situation with careful observation. Few these days would attribute these skills to anything but to a man who is just trying to stay alive, not to a fugitive Section 31 operative.

Daniel has a hard time taking people at face value, believing that everyone has an ulterior motive. There is no such thing to him as a truly good person, especially an altruist. This is because he knows that he is not a good person and that he does what he has to in order to survive, something that he is not at all at peace with but knows he does not have the luxury to be any other way. Morals died with the Federation, doing what has to be done is the only way to keep from bringing humanity one step closer from being an endangered species to an extinct one.
Ambitions Daniel's main goal in life to survive. But under all of that, there is one hope; he knows that there is a project Section 31 was working on. One that if the Klingons manage to plunder successfully, there may not even be anything left in the quadrant. If he can somehow prevent that, then maybe all of this would be worth it in some small way.
Hobbies & Interests Daniel tends to keep his interests small and personal. He tries to keep his skills sharp by learning new forms of hand-to-hand and developing them into something that combines them. He also takes pride in maintaining his weapons and gear. When he is not doing that, Daniel does try to keep at least one plant that he can take care of and has tried to learn several musical instruments. But overall, he is a fairly solitary person.

Personal History Daniel was born on Luna in 2233, his mother was an archaeologist and his father was a civilian legal representative. He would be joined by his brother Joseph and his sister Mary. His mother would move into teaching her field and it was expected that Daniel would move into either the legal field like his father or his mother's field. However, he did not want to do either, and chose more physical activities, before deciding to enlist in Starfleet.

Daniel graduated training and became an enlisted Security Officer in 2252, being posted to the USS Kerala. But his superiors soon noted that the young Crewman had a tendency to resolve issues with his physical skills rather than de-escalation. He also began to exhibit traits indicating that he was willing to continue to do so in order to defend the Federation. Two years later, he was approached by a mysterious officer while on shore leave, who presented him with an offer to join what was initially proposed to him as Starfleet Intelligence but was, in reality, Section 31.

When the war broke out, Daniel was assigned to work on special mission teams behind enemy lines. Here, he would learn the brutality of the Klingons and how desperately the Federation needed people like him and Section 31 to protect them. He was wounded in action and assigned to light duty protecting a special weapons installation. This was his last post with Section 31 when the Klingons came to Earth. He and several others decided to remove themselves from Starfleet's database and Section 31's and disappear. While this saw him survive while his family were all killed, it also meant he abandoned the Federation entirely.

This would begin Daniel's decent into hell for the next two decades. At the start, he was living in refugee camps, starving and close to death, trying to support a friend he cared about. But after she was murdered over a ration, Daniel soon decided to take an active role in his survival. Daniel soon took those same skills he'd learned with Starfleet and Section 31 and sold them to the highest bidder. Bounty hunting, assassinations, and everything in between, there was no low he wouldn't sink to, even taking contracts against fellow humans.

At first, he fell into depression, spending his money on drowning out his emotions and feelings of betrayal in alcohol and narcotics. But over time, he decided to let those feelings die and to accept that he was doing what was needed to survive. But there was a feeling that a project he saw Section 31 working on before his disappearance would be one day found out by the Klingons. He decided that one day, he would find a way to stop that from happening and that would be his redemption.

Despite not believing in fate, Daniel would be presented with an opportunity to do just that...
