Trying To Get A Clear View

Mission: Fool's Errand
Location: Bridge - USS Lexington
Timeline: Mission Day 2 - 19:54 hours

“I still don’t understand why we’re focusing on the sensors over the weapons,” came the voice over comm system.

Kibyr rolled his eyes as he ignored the man’s statement for the third time in the last twenty minutes. It didn’t matter how many times he tried to explain to his brother’s crew that the sensors needed to be prioritized so that they could be warned of any approaching threats. But no, they couldn’t seem to grasp the concept. Not that that surprised him.

He pressed the button on the side of his console, opening a comm link. “Kibyr to Neeva, I’m ready for you to bring the science power grid online,” he said.

“Trying now,” she responded.

It took a few moments, but suddenly the console’s light interface began to illuminate, causing Kibyr to smile. “It’s working,” he said, though there was no one else on the Bridge to hear him, except for his little furry pet that was sleeping at his feet.

He pressed the button again. “Neeva, can you boost the power you’re sending to the main sensor array? I’m about to start a short-range scan.”

She sounded annoyed, but Neeva confirmed the power routing.

Entering the command into the console, Kibyr ran a short-range scan. He smiled as the data poured into his station, giving him a good look at the area around the ship. He began to log the information into the computer banks when a console across the bridge sparked. Kibyr took a step away from his own console just in time for it to spark as well. He sighed as the sensors went offline.

He pressed a button near the tactical console, opening another comm link. “Neeva, let’s call it a day. I think we’re close, but I’m tired of trying to kill myself.”

“About time,” the woman said in response. “Chef found some more of that root in the pantry and promised he’d make something different for dinner tonight.”

While he was hungry, Kibyr grimaced at the idea of eating that bitter vegetable once again. “I think I’ll pass, going to take some time alone.” He cut off the comm link before she could berate him for not eating again.

“Come on, Xo,” he said, causing his little friend to wake up and follow him into the jeffries tube. He climbed down a few decks until he reached where he had been staying: a large suite labeled Executive Officer’s Quarters. He was barely in the door when he kicked off his shoes and pulled his pants off. He didn’t mind clothes, but he always felt more comfortable to be free of them. Besides, the environmental control system was barely functioning enough to give them an atmosphere, temperature control was not functioning properly yet.

He plopped on the bed, staring out the large windows that were on the wall above his headboard. The stars were beautiful and from this angle he had a clear view of the Tigadra Nebula. He closed his eyes, trying to relax and not think about the day they had. And it wasn’t long before he drifted off to sleep.
